Dear Club Members and Friends,
The first exciting activity last week was Nadia’s citizenship ceremony. Nadia and Yaha were joined by Liane Corbett, Annette Billington and me as well as another friend of Nadia’s. There were well over 50 new citizens and the ceremony went smoothly. The council lamingtons were not quite as good as I had heard. Have a look at some of the photos attached to this bulletin.
The board meeting dealt with some of the last minute details re the Fun Run. Other items were our deferral of the golf day until 2019 but we are starting the planning and seeking sponsorship now. If you have any ideas talk with Garry. We touched on the planning for the Carols – still waiting for clarification from Ryde City Council about costs. If we go ahead our club needs to manage the BBQ. Please think about what you can do. The date is 17 December 2017.
On Tuesday I went to the scholarship breakfast at Dunmore Lang College. Each year we award a scholarship to a student at DLC whose studies could lead to an improved world. This year the student is Dinithi Katupitiya. I am hoping she will be able to attend a meeting in the near future and tell us a little about herself and what she hopes to do after her university studies finish.
Remember the next
trivia night is with
Eastwood Gladesville on
9 September. So far only Pam and Tom have said they can go.
The Jazz in the Arboretum is on Sunday 1 October at Pearl Beach. Those who went last year had a great time. This year we have Simon Tedeschi and The George Washing Machine band. Tickets are $40 if I can get more than 10 people ($45 otherwise). Children are $25. Please let me know by Friday 8 September as I will buy them that afternoon.
Now for the Fun Run! It was a great day – perfect weather and lots of volunteers. Thank you to all club members who worked in the lead up to the event and on the day. Ryde and Chatswood Sunrise as well as Rotaract provided extra help as did David Martin’s family members, Ryan Van, Carolin Wilkinson, Gita Sankaran, Josh and Jen Nowiczewski, and Becky, Joanna and Ian Crawford. Those who had family and friends running/walking were also supporting us in a very practical way.
It was good to have the support of Damien Fitzpatrick and John Alexander and of course all our sponsors big and small – Macquarie University Sports Association, Macquarie University Village, Ray White North Ryde, Event Cinemas Top Ryde, Bendigo Community Bank North Ryde, Vision Personal Training, The Ranch Hotel, North Ryde Golf Club, Health Advice Pharmacy, Konica Minolta, Rob Wilkinson Group Travel, Pat Perrin, Vince Murdocca, Collette Joyce, Barbara Lee, Juliet Chenqin, Harris Farm, Macquarie Centre for Emotional Health, Robert Menzies College, Dunmore Lang College, Headspace Chatswood – I hope I haven’t missed anyone.
I also know that various Rotarians purchased items to help with the event – thank you very much. We should have the final financial result next week.
We have some photos in the bulletin this week but will have many more to put on facebook and the website next week.
Some of you may know that David has extended his time overseas. Sadly his brother died on Saturday and he will spend some more time with his sister and nephews. I know all of us are thinking of him.
See you Friday.
Kind regards
Victoria Crawford
