President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Last week we had a “working” meeting and put together the “goody” bags for the Fun Run.  The assembly line worked well and we finished the task very quickly.  We had decided not to have the bags this year but one of our sponsors wished to include items so we went ahead with them.

Remember this Thursday is Nadia’s citizenship ceremony.  It would be lovely if as many members as possible can come.  The ceremony is Thursday 24 August at 6:30pm in the Civic Hall.  I hope to see you there with Nadia and of course Yaha.  I hear the council lamingtons are pretty good.

There is no club meeting this week as we have a Board meeting at DLC.  All members are welcome to attend though.  7:15am till 8:45am.

Mandy sent us some photos from the Rotaract trivia night.  They are in this week’s bulletin.  See if you can spot David Martin.  The next trivia night is with Eastwood Gladesville on 9 September.  If you can go let me know so we can see if we have a table.

There is also a brochure in this bulletin from Results International (Australia) about their wine and cheese night on 30 August.  If you want to know more about them their website is www.results.org.au

The Jazz in the Arboretum is on Sunday 1 October at Pearl Beach.  Those who went last year had a great time.  This year we have Simon Tedeschi and The George Washing Machine band.  Tickets are $40 if I can get more than 10 people ($45 otherwise).  Children are $25.  Please send me a text or email if you want tickets as I will buy them in the next week or so.

Don’t forget in David’s absence Liane Corbett will let DLC know numbers each week.  Please email or call Liane by 9:00am on the Wednesday morning.  Liane’s email is lianecorbett39@gmail.com and her phone number is 0408 157 033.

In anticipation of a great Fun Run I’ll see you Sunday.

Kind regards
Victoria Crawford

Graffiti Removal Day 2017
Local communities are being encouraged to become local heroes in the fight against graffiti by getting involved in Graffiti Removal Day on Sunday 29 October 2017.

Graffiti vandalism costs local businesses, households, NSW Government and local councils millions of dollars every year. This is money which could be invested into roads, sporting facilities, schools and hospitals.

“Graffiti Removal Day draws attention to the fight against graffiti vandalism and encourages people to get involved in the removal and prevention of graffiti,” Graffiti Removal Day Chairman Bob Aitken said.

“Rotary clubs throughout NSW are committed to combating graffiti, which is why we are proud to be working with the NSW Government, Graffiti Removal Australia and great sponsors such as Dulux, Selleys and Smart Graffiti on this event.”
“Graffiti Removal Day is really a day where locals can come together in the fight against graffiti and make a difference to the appearance of their community. It’s time that we all love where we live.

That means actively caring for their city, their suburb or their street and also loving the positive results of Graffiti Removal Day.”

Last year across NSW more 1500 volunteers removed 20,000m2 of graffiti from 460 sites.
“We encourage everyone to become local heroes in the fight against graffiti by volunteering on Sunday 29 October,” Mr Aitken said.

“People who volunteer to help out on the day will be supplied with free cleaning material, paint, safety equipment and training on how to safely remove graffiti.”

“You can register or suggest a clean-up site by completing a form at www.graffitiremovalday.org.au.”

“Those who cannot make on the day can support this great event by promoting it on Facebook or Twitter #GRD17 #lovewherewelive,” Mr Aitken said.
