Rotary Club of North Ryde
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
We have a number of active projects in all of the Rotary's Avenues of Service. Please see also our Events page for an update on some of these projects. COMMUNITY SERVICE Tidal Wave Disaster Relief Our community donated generously to the two money collections our club conducted in Cox's Road Mall and Macquarie Shopping Centre. The bulk of the money collected will go to RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service). A separate direct donation will go to Rotary Clubs in Sri Lanka. Schools We support the Ryde Public Schools through donations and projects:
Christmas Carols In conjunction with Ryde City Council, North Ryde RSL, North Ryde Probus and other Community bodies, we run the annual Community Christmas Carols at North Ryde Common.
We raffle off a Trailer filled with donated goods at Cox’s Road Mall during May, June and July 2005 for a “Christmas in July” fund raiser.
This is our centenary project: In conjunction with the local Schools, Ryde City Council, Macquarie University Biodiversity Group “Biotrack” and the Community as a whole, rehabilitation of a local Park.
Tree of Joy Local residents provide hundreds of Christmas gifts for the less fortunate, through the annual Tree of Joy we set up at Cox's Road Mall
Bowel Cancer Kits
We implement locally the Bowel Scan Awareness Campaign, a program of the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund.
Country Students IT Project Our Ryde area is rich in industrial companies willing to showcase their use of Information Technology. Each year we select deserving students thought the Rotary Clubs of Inverell and West Wyong, for a one week exposure to the application of IT in industry.
R.Y.L.A (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Young people ages 14-30 chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice.
This program provides driver safety education to year 11 students, at an age at which they are eager to get their first driver's licence. We provide volunteers and support for this project.
The NYSF brings together 288 of the best year 11 science students in Australia for 2 weeks each January for the purpose of increasing their appreciation of science, improving their organisational skills, enhancing their personal development and encouraging them to advance their skills in the best possible manner by choosing the most appropriate course at university.
The Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is an initiative by Rotary to develop an understanding of World Affairs for Senior Secondary School Students in a forum similar to a General Assembly of the United Nations.
The objectives of the Rotary youth exchange programs are to further international goodwill and understanding by enabling students to study first hand some of the accomplishments and problems in other lands. We sponsor an incoming student (from Germany this year) and an outgoing student (who is in Thailand).
Our club is an active supporter of this project of the Rotary Districs of Australia and New Zealand. ROMAC's mission is "to provide medical treatment for children from developing countries in the form of life saving and/or dignity restoring surgery".
