President's Message

Dear  Club Members and Friends,
We had a very productive club assembly on Friday. We reviewed our Vision statement and made some adjustments to our goals in our 5 year plan for 2016-21. Feedback from the SWOT analysis and the surveys showed that we are doing very well in many of our priority areas. It was very clear that there are three areas we need to focus on over the next year to achieve our goals for 2021. Membership, Corporate engagement and our Public Image are the three areas we will develop strategies to work on. We started a brainstorming session on ideas and will continue to work on this at club assemblies.
Organisation for the Fun Run is coming together well with a little over 1 week to go! We will have a working bee at Dunmore Lang College on Friday 24 August instead of our usual meeting. We will need all hands on deck to help pack the goodie bags and transport them and other equipment to Macquarie University Sports fields where will will store them until Sunday morning.
We will also need helpers to pick up equipment from the storage facilities on Thursday 23 August. Similarly we will need help returning equipment to storage after the Fun Run. If you are available for an hour or so, please let Victoria or myself know.
Raffle tickets have been printed and are ready to be sold, thanks again to Victoria. We have bundles of 10 at $2.00 per ticket with the prizes listed below. It would be great to sell all 500 of them or more. If you can take a few bundles to sell to family, friends and work colleagues, they will be available at this Friday's meeting or contact me on my mobile, 0400803417 and I will organise to deliver them to you. The winners will be drawn at the Fun Run.
This week, Victoria and I had the pleasure of presenting a special trophy to our Encouragement Award recipient, Lisa Donnelly at New Horizons. Lisa was thrilled to receive her award and it was very interesting to see the work that Lisa and her workmates do at the New Horizons facility. We hope to have a guest speaker from New Horizons at one of our breakfast meetings in the near future to tell us more about  New Horizons.
We will have some teachers and principals from the local primary and high school at our meeting this Friday. We look forward to hearing from each representative about the schools and the work that they do with their students.
Kind regards
Pam Wood
President 2018-19

This month has been very quiet and peaceful, as it is the summer holidays.
I did go up and visit my host grandparents who live about 6 hours North in the village of Nykarleby. I then went out to their summer cottage on an island about an hour away. I spent about a week there helping to retile a roof, going fishing, and having Sauna.
I also went to my host parent’s cottage where we just relax. Because I have been out of town for a while I haven’t had much chance to hang out with exchange students, and because all of the ones who had come halfway through last year have already gone, there are less people to hang out with.
Next month there will be a big meetup of all of the exchange students and Rotarians, but until then I will be quite busy.
This has been a big month of development for my language skills. Because I went up to my host grandparents town where they only really speak Swedish, and none of my grandparents speak English, I was forced to speak Swedish, which is really good. I’ve also continued with my language lessons.
While I’m writing this I’m on a trip around Finland with my actual parents for about a week. We are travelling around my home town of Turku, a smaller city called Jyväskÿlä about 4 hours north of Turku, and Helsinki, the capital of Finalnd. It is so nice to see my parents again.
