PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome to another edition of our Rotary Club of North Ryde bulletin.

We have had news of the catastrophes that are happening overseas in our world. We keep all the people, and the wildlife affected, in our minds and prayers.

We would also like to thank all the volunteers that are being deployed to help fight the fires in Europe. Our thoughts turn to what it is that Rotary means by helping others, many countries have been affected by these natural disasters and Rotary has come to the fore again with aid. Our Rotary Club of North Ryde are giving to the Venezuela disaster relief program, and I am sure in the following weeks we will be notified of many more Aid programs that will need assistance.

I have reached out to Mei about the terrible earthquakes in Japan. Mei and her family are fine, although a little shaken. Her father is helping in the south of Japan with Medical Aid in his capacity as a surgeon. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. Mei’s school year is coming to an end, then will enjoy a family holiday. We wish her all the best in her further chosen studies.

I would like to thank all of those that have assisted with the Ryde Eisteddfod, from the past six weeks and will conclude on the 5th of September 2026. Peter and I have been thrilled to be able to witness first-hand the talent that is in the City of Ryde, by volunteering to help with some of the programs. I would like to congratulate all the organisers of this program, and it is truly a wonderful event for the City of Ryde.

Mandy, Ian, Peter and I went down to get our hands dirty at Blenheim Park in North Ryde, to help with the National Tree Day planting program that Ryde City Council put on in the park. It is wonderful to see the greening of the area. There is much work still to be done at the park itself, after asbestos was found in the area. I am looking forward to when it opens next year so that we can get back there and enjoy the sunshine in our park.

Our good friends at Turramurra Rotary Club are holding their trivia night again this year on the 18th of August 2026. Please come along to this wonderful night and show our support for raising money for all the programs, including the joint program of Books in Homes for the Moree East Public School.

Our Rotary Club of North Ryde have now completed our planning sessions through the Board and the Club and look forward to all the wonderful events we have planned for the next 12 months. Please keep these dates in mind and pop them in your diary so that you know what is happening.

Garry Maloney has confirmed our BBQ dates with Gladesville Bunnings, and these will be published shortly.

Save the Date - 2026 Carols on the Common 13 December
This year's Carols on the Common will be held on Sunday 13 December at the North Ryde Common from 5.00-9.30pm.  The 2026 Carol on the Common Committee is meeting next Thursday 23 July at 7pm at the Crowne Plaza North Ryde. This will be the third planning meeting for this year's Carols on the Common.

Once again the City of Ryde has provided a generous grant to enable the committee to start booking infrastructure and resources for the Carols. We already have commitment from our wonderful sponsors Bendigo Community Bank Homebush and North Ryde; Cox's Road Mall and many of our sponsors from last year to support the Carols again this year.
If you are interested in sponsoring the Carols the sponsorship packages are available from the Carols on the Common website www.carolsonthecommon.org.au
We will also be calling for volunteers to assist with the many tasks required both before, during and after which make the Carols a very successful community event. If you are interested in volunteering at the Carols, please contact me by email woodmal50@hotmail.com or by mobile 0400803417.
