Last Friday, 22 May, President Elect (PE) Mandy Van hosted a joint Zoom meeting for both current and incoming board members, she chaired part of it as I had an internet problem but joined later on mobile. Issues raised included the following :
Approved a ZOOM Club Changeover meeting on the morning of 26 June. The Changeover celebration dinner will be organised when circumstances permit. It will include a raffle, certificates of appreciation, PHF awards and Pride of Workmanship awards if possible.
The Board discussed providing support for Tim at Basil's Seafood on the evening of 26 June by organising a group of interested members and friends for dinner which would fit in with current restrictions.Garry Maloney will organise see here
PP Pam Wood will review together with PE Mandy my draft statement on our club's 42nd anniversary on 5 June and will publish it in the bulletin next week.
Approved proposal by PP Victoria Crawford to have a face to face meeting for 10 while observing social distancing. PP David Martin will make the arrangements see here
Approved nominating, Deputy Captain, Sharon Mason,Warringah Rural Fire Brigade for a Rotary Emergency Services Community Award for his efforts fighting the bushfires.
Approved the proposed distribution of funds raised for 2019-20. Payments will be made by direct transfer for this financial year rather than presentation at Changeover dinner. A meeting will be organised by Zoom for the Fundraising committee to discuss fundraising into 2020-21.
It is important for members to let the Board know your intention to continue or not to continue as a member of the club before the end of this financial year. Treasurer Sandeep Rathi has emailed all members to notify him of your intentions for membership for the 2020-21 Rotary year as soon as possible. For contact email see here
Feedback from the District assembly breakout session on Public Image was provided by Garry Maloney and Mandy Van. Of note are resources available for e-learning on the Rotary International website at rotary.org underMy Rotary.
I reminded new board members of the useful Rotary material available on the Rotary International website including Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct, Duties of Officers, Paul Harris Fellowship, Eradicating Polio and Manual of Procedures see here.
Our final Board meeting for 2019-20 Rotary year will be on Friday19 June via Zoom.
The next Club meeting will be held on Friday 12 June at 7.30a.m. via Zoom. Secretary Mandy Van will send out an email with the details.
On 23 May, DG Kalma McLellan hosted the last ZOOM Presidents' meeting for the year. It lasted 2 hours. RI President Mark Maloney spoke and answered questions for half an hour, he praised his convention meeting in Sydney.
The board thought that it would be a good idea to try and have a face to face club meeting, come social gathering, as soon as we can. Zoom meetings are great, but nothing beats face to face even from an appropriate distance.
We thought a morning tea in a park would fit the bill. Saturday 13th June was suggested, at around 10 am. The venue suggested was Blenheim Park, North Ryde. There are toilets and a playground available.
It would be a case of bring your own chair or rug, drinks and eats. I am sure the coffee aficionados will know where the closest takeaway coffee outlet is!
The group will be restricted to 10 with the 1.5 metres physical distancing to apply. Depending on numbers, we could split into 2 or more appropriately separated groups. Negotiations could be had to swap between groups during the morning.
Before we really firm up the arrangements could you please let me know if you feel comfortable with this type of meeting and whether you would like to attend on Saturday the 13th. Partners and children are of course welcome. If it is wet, we will just cancel.
Could you please let me know by close of business on Monday 25th May whether you can make it.
As you will be aware we had planned on having our Rotary Club Changeover Celebration Dinner at Basil’s Restaurant on Friday 26 June. But due to COVID - 19 we have had to cancel this event.
However, to support Tim at Basil’s, and with the restrictions easing from the 1st June, we are organising a club social dinner at Basil’s on Friday 26 June, starting at 7pm.
We will be in a seperate room to the main dinning room, and Tim will arrange the seating, taking into account the Physical Distancing requirements at that time. We are hoping that between 10 and 20 people will be able to attend the dinner. The dinner is for club members and partners.
Please see attached the ‘Menu’ that Tim has provided for our dinner. Drinks can be purchased separately.
Could you please let me know if you will be able to attend and the number of people attending, i.e. just you (1), you and a partner (2).
So, Friday 26 June at 7pm.
Have a look at the attached Menu and make your choice on the night. Buy your own drinks. How many attending.
Please let me know by Friday, 12 June, if are able to attend?
If you have any questions please contact me, on 0426230458
I hope this email finds you and your Rotary members well in this different season we find ourselves in.
As much valued supporters of the Salvation Army and the Red Shield Appeal, I wanted give you an update and let you know about what is happening with the Appeal this year.
With the current COVID-19 situation we will not be able to knock on doors and collect in the community as we have in previous years. Activities like the Trivia Night and Golf Day will not be running during May but hopefully we will be able to run them at a later time.
We might not be able to knock on doors or collect in shopping centres and on sporting fields as we have in previous years but we are all able to take part in the ‘Digital Doorknock’ which is happening for 2020.
We kindly ask that your group would consider ‘joining the team’ supporting the Ryde Salvos in the ‘Digital Doorknock’. It is really easy to get involved.
Just head to https://digitaldoorknock.salvationarmy.org.au/t/r-salvos and start a fundraiser. You will see fundraising has already begun by both individuals, Businesses and Community Groups. I have attached the instructions to this email.
Please consider sharing this link among your members, friends, workmates, Facebook friends, posting it in community newsletters and on digital noticeboards. Remember to share the Ryde Salvos page. This will ensure most of the funds collected will stay locally for us to serve the local community through the year.
(The Ryde Salvos Area covers from Epping through to Hunters Hill/Gladesville and down through Eastwood, West Ryde to Meadowbank and Putney)
In these unprecedented times, we are as always at work, supporting those who need assistance. Thank you again for your generosity and how you have supported us so we in turn can support the community. We hope you will partner with us again this year, in this new way for Red Shield 2020.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Have one cuppa and donate $5. Or maybe have a cuppa each day for one week and donate $35. The choice is yours, but whatever your gift - you will help us deliver MAYDAY, the call no one ever wants to make.
Please have a cuppa for CareFlight and donate here.
Together, we’ll still experience the spirit of Rotary, be inspired by innovation, celebrate our resilience, and explore how clubs are addressing COVID-19. Experience Rotary in action during our Flag Ceremony, witness the power of connection during our general sessions, learn new ways to engage with Rotary during our breakout sessions, find inspiration from our global speakers, and much more.
We have never needed Rotary — and we have never needed each other — more than we do now. We hope to see you online, because Now More Than Ever, Rotary Connects the World.
