Welcome to this week's newsletter.
The North Ryde eFun Run Sponsors’ breakfast was held on Friday 22 July. From all accounts it was a successful event, and everybody present enjoyed the breakfast and presentations from Bob Kaye-Smith (Australian Rotary Health) and Professor Viviana Wuthrich (Macquarie University - Centre for Emotional Health). It was great to learn that the funds raised are being put to such great use. A big thank you again to all our sponsors and supporters.
I attended District 9685’s Presidents meeting which was held on Zoom on Saturday 23 July. Our new District Governor Mina Howard welcomed all the new club presidents and spoke about the six calls to action that she has listed as being important for her year.
PDG, Kalma McLellan spoke about Regionalisation and the upcoming vote in early September to determine whether the pilot programme would proceed. She will be speaking at our club meeting on 5 August. Rotary International Director Jessie Harman is also running several webinars between now and the middle of August and if you want to look up more information visit creatingtomorrowrotary.org.
Paul Rogers who is the District Youth Protection Officer, spoke about Working with Children Checks and making sure all members within the club who work with children have a current WWCC. Pam Wood is our Youth Protection Officer and all members will be receiving a reminder from her. We will also be organising refresher training for the members in the coming months.
Mina invited me to speak briefly on what our club has done with supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart. It was great to be able to present our club’s view to the large audience.
I mentioned Rotary Leadership Institute in a previous newsletter. The next RLI course (No. 70) will be held over 19/ 20/ 21st August as an online course. The course offers a relevant and valuable learning and professional development opportunity and is designed for Rotarians of all experience levels but with at least 12 months of Rotary membership under their belt. The Board recently discussed this and has agreed to support members who want to enrol for this course. If you are interested, please register online using this
RLI link.
At the last Board meeting, Victoria Crawford updated the Board regarding the progress on planning for Carols on the Common. The date for the event is Sunday, 18 December 2022. The project is progressing well. One area that has been identified is the need for volunteers on the day. Please keep this in mind and be on the lookout for volunteers among family and friends who might be able to help us on the day.
I thank everyone in the Club for their commitment, energy and contribution towards making a difference.
