President's Message

Dear  Club Members and Friends,

We were fortunate to have four representatives from our local schools attend our breakfast meeting on Friday. We welcomed Cassy Norris Principal, Ryde Secondary College; Nicole Doig, Executive Assistant Principal Ryde East Public School; Marion Blomfield, Principal Truscott Street Public School and Jo Fox, Principal Holy Spirit Catholic School. Unfortunately, Erin Taggart, Assistant Principal from North Ryde Public School and Denise Minifie from Kent Road Piublic School were both unwell and unable to attend.

It was wonderful to hear about all the different educational activities and programs that are provided for the young people in our area. Schools are very busy places these days with a great deal of hard work happening behind the scenes by the teachers, staff and students. We were pleased to present each representative with a cheque to go towards supporting some of the programs within each school. This is part of our annual giving of funds raised throughout the year.

We also welcomed Jimmy Lukito from The Weekly Times (TWT) and Rado Gatchalian who has offered to help at the Fun Run on Sunday. We appreciate the support of TWT  in promoting both the Fun Run and the Carols on the Common each year.

We are looking forward to a successful Fun Run on Sunday and hope that the rain that is predicted will hold off just long enough for us to complete the event! Thank you to everyone who has helped in bringing the event together and who have volunteered to assist on Sunday. We have had offers of help from the Ryde, Macquarie Park and Eastwood Gladesville Rotary Clubs and the students from Epping Boys High School, which is fantastic! I have sent out rosters, a safety brief and a run sheet for the day to all volunteers.

Our meeting this Friday is a working bee to put together the goodie bags and  take them to the Sports ground lock up. We hope with many hands we can do this quickly and have time for a some collegiality as well.

I had the privilege of attending the Dunmore Lang College Scholarships & Academic Committee Breakfast on Tuesday. Our club provides a scholarship to a student at Dunmore Lang College each year and has been doing so for about 15 years. This year the scholarship was presented to Claire McHattie. Claire is from Singleton and is studying a double degree in Law and Arts. It was lovely to meet her and the other scholarship recipients and gain a better understanding of the College and the students who reside there.

The final seminar on youth mental health will be held this evening at the Hearing Hub at Macquarie University this evening (Wednesday). Thank you to Rob Wilkinson, Annette Billington and Brian Powell for offering to come along and help with registrations and afternoon tea. There have been over 100 registration so far so it should also be a great opportunity to promote the Fun Run.

Kind regards
Pam Wood
President 2018-19

  • There has been substantial movement of the earth causing major damage
  • We have Rotary support in Indonesia that will help us in our assessment phase

  • Places are cut off because of infrastructure damage and this damage could rise
  • Our assessment team will look to see if our aid that is stored regionally can be used
  • We are ready and prepared to provide assistance if we are called on for support
