Welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter.
It is going to be a short one as I am travelling for work.
Based on our members’ desire to do so, we have donated $2,000 through ShelterBox for the disaster relief work in Türkiye and Syria post the devastating earthquake that occurred earlier last month.
The funds will go towards 2 shelter boxes which are so important in a rescue and shelter effort like this.
A huge amount of work has happened relating to the North Ryde eFun Run which is going to be held from Sunday 30 April to 7 May. A special thank you to Pam Wood, Bernie Mason and Mandy Van for all the work done behind the scenes. Thank you also to all other members who have been assisting with this project. The website is up and running. Now we need all our members to participate in the event and tap into their networks to make the event successful. It is for a great cause – Youth Mental Health. I would encourage every member to commit to a goal, small or large, and make it successful. Please don’t forget to take photos of you walking or running and make it a celebration. It can be done at your pace and when you want, so there’s something for everybody!
As you know, after a 3-year gap, we are able to hold the IT Tour for Country Students. We have
several organisations on board and even offers of help from other Rotary clubs in our area. Thank you, David, for all the planning and organization for DIGIT week (which stands for “Dig IT” as well as a reference to “Digital”).
Bernie and Peter Mason will be representing our club at the District Conference at Cowra. Peter has been hard at work putting the finishing touches to the walking stick which will be auctioned at the conference. If you haven’t already, please show your support by pledging your donation. It is all for a good cause.
The club has agreed to sponsor 2 students from Marsden High School for Winter RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) 2023. The program will be held at the beautiful Blue Gum Lodge in Springwood.
We have also agreed to sponsor a prize for a particular discipline at Ryde Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod is a non-profit, volunteer-run organisation which consists of a Committee and a large band of helpers. This is an exciting community initiative which promotes several disciplines – instrumental, vocal, speech, dance and choral.
I thank everyone in the Club for their commitment, energy and contribution towards making a
difference.
