President's Message

Dear  Club Members and Friends,

This week has been a little quieter than the past few weeks. Garry and I have been getting in a bit of training practice for the Waterline Challenge on this Saturday.  Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters we have already reached our target! We are meeting at 8a.m. at the end of Lucinda Road Marsfield. Whilst our official team has grown to six walkers, we hope that others will join us on the walk for fun. It is not too late to donate, all funds raised go to ROMAC. If you would like to join the team register at www.waterlinechallenge.org. Once you have registered you then join our team which is called Rotary Club of North Ryde, you will need the team password which is Xsxc3F. (case sensitive).

The early bird registration for the District Conference in Newcastle finishes at the end of this month. ADG Julie Thorp has managed to organise some rooms at good prices at the Holiday Inn Express and the Quest Hotel Apartments for the Riverside Clubs. If you are intending to go to the Conference please let me know and I will send you the information. We will need to book through Julie as she has reserved a bulk booking.

The next meeting for the Carols Committee will be Wednesday 21 November at 14 Agincourt Rd Marsfield, commencing 7.30p.m. The organisation for the Carols on the Common is coming a long well and we look forward to another fabulous event on Sunday 16 December.

The Fun Run Thank You breakfast on Friday 23 November is coming up very quickly.  Along with Certificates of Appreciation to our sponsors, we will be presenting donations from the funds raised through the Fun Run to Australian Rotary Health and the Centre for Emotional Health. Terry Davies from Australian Rotary Health and Professor  Jennie Hudson Director of the Centre for Emotional Health will be our guest speakers at the breakfast. As this will be a cooked breakfast the cost will be $20 for members.

Don't forget the Christmas Party  on Friday 30 November at North Ryde RSL 6.30 for 7p.m.  RSVP to David Martin as soon as possible.

This Friday we welcome our guest speaker, the Austrian Counsel-General, Mr Karl Hartleb. We have asked Mr Hartleb to give his presentation early in the meeting to enable those who have to leave early to hear the presentation and also to give sufficient time for questions. This has worked well when we have trialled it at some of our earlier breakfast meetings.

The final Board meeting for this year will be on Friday 30 November. The AGM will be held on Friday 7 December which will also be the last meeting for the year.

Kind regards
Pam Wood
President 2018-19

International Fellowship of cricketing Rotarians Melbourne Festival

The International Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians (IFCR) is one of the most popular of all Rotary Fellowships with a membership now touching 1350.
Melbourne has the honour of hosting this festival from January 20 next year. We will follow in the footsteps of previous festivals in Christchurch (2017), Nottingham (2014), Vapi in India (2012), Durban (2010), Colombo (2007) and Hunter Valley (2004).
Registrations include 185 players from 9 countries and 85 non-players. Cricket games will be played at Caulfield Park and East Caulfield Reserve from Monday January 21 through to Friday January 25.
On Wednesday 23 there will be a game at the spiritual home of Australian IFCR at Strath Creek which is 70k from Melbourne.
A novel feature of this festival is that players will play in mixed teams. The spirit of cricket and the fellowship of Rotary will be assured across all competing countries.
The Opening Dinner at the MCG on Sunday night January 20 will have one of Australia’s leading sports commentators as guest speaker. The Friday night Closing Dinner will feature leading cabaret performer, Marney McQueen.
All in all, it will be a great week of cricket, fun, entertainment and fellowship. Festival details: http://rotarycricket.org
