Welcome to this week’s newsletter.
Last Friday we heard from Trisha Chari whose attendance at the last National Youth Science Forum was sponsored by our club. She spoke about her experience of both the virtual program and the in-person program. The virtual program allowed her to experience locations that would not have been possible otherwise. It was great to hear that the program greatly increased her knowledge of science and technology and expanded her horizons by opening her eyes to other career paths. Youth is a very important avenue of service for our club and it is always great to see young people commit themselves to their own development.
Some of you would have met Queenie Seto at club meetings and events. We are delighted to welcome Queenie as a new member of our club. She is a retired CPA and is joining Rotary to be able to give back to the community and have fun while doing it!
We recently received a wonderful letter of appreciation from the parents of one of the winners of the Ripple Effects Photo Contest (see details below). It was great acknowledgement of the project as well as all the sponsors including our club. A huge thanks to Past President Shankar and Pernille (University of Technology) for the organisation of the contest and the awards ceremony, and putting a quality touch to everything.
All of you would have received an email invitation from Garry regarding the club’s 2022 Christmas Party at the North Ryde Golf Club (NRGC) on Friday 9 December 2022. The function will be held in the Gardenia Room of NRGC from 7:15pm, following the club's Annual General Meeting. Please let Garry know by Friday 25 November if you will be able to attend and the number attending.
The Carols meeting was held on Thursday 3 November 2022. We continue to make good progress on the organization of the event. It is just over 5 weeks away and we hope that we will have good weather leading up to and on the day of the event. The next meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday 24 November 2022.
We will be running the next Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 3 December. Please let Garry know of your availability as soon as you can. Please be aware that our busiest time during the day is from 10 am to 2 pm.
The Tree of Joy will be set up at the Coxs Road Mall towards the end of this week. Each year we ask for helpers to check for donated gifts at the Tree each day and take them to storage nearby. Closer to Christmas, this will need to be done several times a day. Pam Wood has requested for volunteers to be on roster to check and collect. Please let Pam know so that there is coverage throughout the period.
Thank you to everybody who has placed orders for Xmas Puddings. The funds being generated are going for a very worthy cause of Books in Homes for the Moree East Public School. At the last update, we had already raised more than $3,000. It is a wonderful collaboration between several clubs.
The next club assembly will be held in person on Friday 18 November at Dunmore Lang College. I will be away at a work conference and will not be attending. Peter and Bernie Mason have kindly agreed to run the meeting.
I thank everyone in the Club for their commitment, energy and contribution towards making a difference.
