A MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT 9685 GOVERNOR, MICHELE ELLERY.

Dear Members and Friends,

It has been a week of very mixed emotions with the wonderful success of the 2025 Carols on the Common, so quickly impacted by the devastating news of the horrific terrorist attack unfolding at Bondi Beach on Sunday evening. Our thoughts, prayers and support go out to the victims, their families and the Jewish Community.

On Sunday, President Mandy Van shared with us the sad news that her father passed away over the weekend. Mandy has returned to Hong Kong to be with her family and will return in a few weeks time. We send our deepest sympathy to Mandy and her family.

Last night we received the following information on behalf of DG 9685 Michele Ellery and Chatwood Roseville Rotary President Phil Dunbar.

Vale Past President Andre Hariman 20.12.2025

"It is with great sadness that I share the news that our dear friend and dedicated Rotarian, Andre Hariman from Chatswood Roseville Rotary, passed away last night.

After recovering from his recent surgery, Andre had returned home when he sadly developed complications and was readmitted to hospital. While in hospital, he suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be saved.

Andre was a driving force behind many important projects within his club, across other clubs in our District and beyond. He was also a much-valued friend and mentor of many Rotary clubs and projects including his tireless passion for supporting Rotary's commitment to Polio Eradication. Andre was always ready with a supportive 'hug', very generous with his expertise and time and always a pleasure to work alongside. He will be sadly missed by all of us.

At this stage, I do not have any further information, but will share details as they come to hand.

Our thoughts are with Lita and Andre’s family, and with our friends at Chatswood Roseville, during this very difficult time.

Yours in Rotary,
Tania Mace

The members of the Rotary Club of North Ryde are deeply saddened by this news. Andre was a wonderful friend to our club and a true humanitarian. He will be greatly missed.

It is a time to reflect on what is important to us and how short our time on this earth can be. Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas with your loved ones.

Kind regards
Pam

2025 Carols on the Common -Another Fantastic Community Event!

Congratulations to everyone who came together to ensure another fantastic Rotary Carols on the Common. Thank you to the hard working Carols on the Common Committee, led by Roseanna Gallo OAM from the Rotary Club of Macquarie Park for ensuring another successful Community event!

Thank you to our club's Honorary member, Stephen Sim, for once again being our wonderful MC for the evening. Stephen kept the program running and ensured everyone was enjoying the evening, whilst the news of the horrific terrorist attack in Bondi unfolded. Stephen, Roseanna and Reverend John Chappell lead us through the program with care, sensitivity and professionalism.

We could not have put on this event without the support from the City of Ryde Council, our many fabulous sponsors; the very talented performers; the vendors and the most essentially, the many volunteers who contributed from putting up banners and corflutes; letterbox delivering flyers and posters prior to the event; implementing the website and social media campaign; setting up on the Saturday afternoon and from the very early hours of Sunday morning until long after midnight following the event.  Then backing up to do a check of the Common and take equipment to storage. And also to the many volunteers who helped with the bucket collection during the evening, stage managing, working in Kidzone and the Optus tent, and the helping with raffle ticket sales.

A very special thanks to the members, families, friends and colleagues of the Rotary Clubs of Macquarie Park and North Ryde who helped in so many ways. The volunteers from the Ryde East and North Ryde Scouts; , St John's Anglican Youth team and the staff from the Primary Way who helped with the set up, and pull down.. Thanks, also, to the RFS who helped keep the carpark moving and safe; the SES: the local Police; St John's Ambulance; the staff of Bendigo Community Bank, North Ryde who cared for and supported any lost elves throughout the night and the North Ryde RSL for providing the sponsorship for the fireworks display that unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the strong winds.

It takes many dedicated people to bring an event such as this together and we are very grateful to everyone involved. After a relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year period the Committee will review the event and start the planning for the 2026 Carols On the Common.

Wishing you all a very Happy and safe Christmas!

Koolewong Fire Disaster Relief

Koolewong Fire Disaster Relief

Our Koolewong community is hurting. In the recent bushfires, several families lost their homes, their possessions, and their sense of security in a matter of minutes. Rotary has stepped in to coordinate a compassionate, community-driven response, bringing Rotary clubs together to offer practical help, support, and hope.

If you’re able, please donate via the RAWCS Koolewong Fire Disaster Relief Fund by scanning the QR code. Your contribution is tax-deductible and will go directly to families who are beginning the long journey of rebuilding their lives. Let’s rally together and show them that we care.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued commitment to service.

Yours in Rotary,
